Will Liposuction Remove My Fat Forever?
Posted August 09, 2016 in Liposuction
Many people who have excess fat that is resistant to diet and exercise opt for liposuction to obtain their body goals. Liposuction is an effective procedure for removing fat. It is especially useful for men and women who are at or near their ideal weight but just need to lose a few inches or pounds to meet their final results. After liposuction, many people want to know if liposuction is the end-all game in the battle against fat. Once the fat is removed via liposuction, is it gone forever? The answer is yes and no.
Where Does My Fat Go?
What someone must understand about liposuction is how exactly it works and what happens to the fat after the surgery. Yes, liposuction gets rid of the fat, but no, a patient is not completely off the hook when it comes to gaining additional fat.
What Happens During Liposuction?
During liposuction, Dr. Cohn will inject a saline or anesthetic solution to help reduce bleeding and minimize bruising. Small incisions are made in the treatment area(s). A thin metal tube (cannula) is inserted through the incisions. The cannula is connected to a vacuum device that suctions out the fat cells to remove them from the area.
The targeted fat removed during liposuction is gone forever; however, the fat cells that surround the area(s) will continue to shrink and swell. This means if a person takes in more calories than the body needs without burning them off, the body can accumulate weight. It does not necessarily mean a person will gain weight disproportionately (appearing thin in the targeted area and gaining fat elsewhere), but the body can build up fat overall.
How Do I Maintain My Liposuction Results?
If you are satisfied with your liposuction results and want to maintain your results, sticking to a healthy lifestyle is key. It is important that patients stay active by exercising regularly and that they follow a healthy diet after their liposuction procedure.
If diet and exercise have failed to help you achieve your body goals, you may be a good candidate for liposuction. The best liposuction patients are in good health, have realistic expectations, and are willing to diet and exercise after the procedure to maintain their results.
Liposuction can create a smoother, better-contoured body. If a patient continues to work out and eat right, they can enjoy their liposuction results for many years!
