4 TIPS FOR PREPARING FOR PLASTIC SURGERY

Posted April 25, 2015 in Uncategorized

Now that you’ve made the decision to have plastic surgery in Birmingham, it is important for you to take some time to prepare yourself for the procedure. Although Dr. Cohn will be responsible for doing all of the work on your body, how well you prepare yourself beforehand can greatly affect your recovery and the outcome of your surgery. Here are four tips to help you prepare for your upcoming procedure.

1. Increase Fluid Intake

In the days leading up to your surgery, start drinking more water and clear fluids to hydrate your body. Being properly hydrated before your procedure greatly reduces your risk of complications and makes it easier for your surgeon to sculpt your body the way you want. The night before your surgery, do not drink or eat anything, especially water after midnight unless your doctor has given you the okay to do so.

2. Stop Smoking

In the coming weeks before and after your surgery refrain from using any cigarettes or tobacco containing products. Smoking drastically reduces your body’s ability to heal after surgery and can increase the risk of complications.

3. Avoid Aspirin Containing Products

At least two weeks before your procedure, you should avoid taking any aspirin containing products. Aspirin is an anticoagulant (blood thinner) that will increase your risk for bleeding and create complications during your surgery. If you must take any mild pain relievers prior to your operation, ask your doctor for a list of suitable alternatives.

4. Follow All Pre-Op Orders

Dr. Cohn will provide you with instructions to follow in order for you to prepare for your plastic surgery in Birmingham. It is very important for you to follow these instructions as they will help to improve the success of your procedure and ensure your comfort during your recovery. If you have any questions about anything you can always contact Dr. Cohn, and don’t hesitate to ask questions.
